Householder – Installation of emergency radio boxes
New emergency radio boxes have been installed at locations across the island. These radios are designed to improve safety and support emergency response in areas where mobile phone coverage is unavailable.

- North Bay Shed (near defibrillator)
- Ned's Beach Shed (near defibrillator and shark bite kit)
- Jetty Shed (near the laundry room door)
- Middle Beach (near the way marker sign at the top of the south stairs)
- Clear Place (end of walking track, before the bench)
- Blinky Beach (top of track near torpedo buoy and bench)
- Rocky Run (track junction between Rocky Run and Boat Harbour)
Two further emergency radios proposed for Little Island and Boat Harbour are on hold, pending further consultation.

- medical emergencies
- persons in distress or immediate danger
- vessel or water-related emergencies
- incidents requiring urgent Police, Fire or rescue response.
How to use
Operating instructions are displayed on each emergency radio box:

- Press and hold the button for 5 seconds to activate the radio.
- An alert is sent to Lord Howe Island Police, Lord Howe Island Hospital and Board responders, including State Emergency Service (SES) and Rural Fire Service (RFS) personnel.
- Press the button to speak and release to listen.
- Clearly state your location and the nature of the emergency.
- Follow all instructions provided.

The responding agency will coordinate with Lord Howe Island Police, who will arrange additional emergency services as required.

- Equipment must not be misused or interfered with.
- If it is safe to do so, remain at the radio to communicate with responders.
These radios are an addition to the island's safety infrastructure. Residents and visitors are encouraged to familiarise themselves with their locations.
