Development on Lord Howe Island

The Board oversees the development assessment and planning process to ensure the quality of the natural and built environment is maintained.

The Lord Howe Island Local Environmental Plan (LEP) is made under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and controls planning and development on the Island. The conservation values of Lord Howe Island are also protected by other state and federal legislation, and statutory planning documents

The Lord Howe Island Board recognises the value of our natural and cultural heritage. It has introduced a range of appropriate heritage conservation and management measures that apply to all developments on the Island.
