Reminders for the peak season
LHIB would like to remind residents of areas of consideration with increased activity and visitor numbers on the Island as the peak holiday season ramps up.
Parking
The busy section of Neds Beach Road between the Community Hall and Thompsons store is a safety concern with increased foot traffic, bikes, and cars this time of year. Residents and visitors are encouraged to exercise caution in this area and park within the marked bays, or on the grassed area behind the Community Hall.
Boat ramp
Vessels and trailers must not be stored at the boat ramp area for longer than 48 hours.
Vessels over 6m in length may be stored in the boat ramp area for up to 7 days to undertake repairs and maintenance with prior application and approval from the LHIB. Application forms can be obtained from the LHIB Administration Office 02 6563 2066 or [email protected].
Woodhens and Shearwaters
LHIB continues to record roadkill incidents on the Island. Woodhens and Shearwaters are both at risk of being run over by cars.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to observe speed limits. With increased numbers of woodhens and other species, care should be taken to avoid ground birds traversing road and road verges.
Drivers can help to protect our young shearwaters by slowing down around known nesting areas and taking the time to ‘shift a shearwater’ or ‘move a mutto’ off the road. Shearwaters are clumsy on land and are disorientated and startled by lights. Driving around them is often not effective at preventing unwanted deaths.
Please report roadkill to the LHIB Environment Team to help us collect data to manage the impact of roadkill on both species: 02 6563 2066 or [email protected]. All reports will remain confidential. Only the location and band number (if applicable) will be recorded on the register.
Outdoor areas
Please show your consideration for other residents and visitors by sharing BBQ facilities and keeping the public and outside areas you occupy free from litter. Residents and businesses are reminded that public spaces and facilities, including outdoor tables, cannot be reserved.
Advertising and signage
LHIB recognises that signage is important in assisting and providing information to residents and visitors. It is important to balance these needs with the low-key character of development on the Island and its significant scenic values
Residents, community organisations and business operators are encouraged to review LHIB’s Advertising and Signage Policy on the LHIB website here. The policy outlines the requirements for promoting various business activities, events and providing product information.
Please consider whether your current or intended signage requires consent from the Board. Applications for signage, including temporary or mobile (eg. A frames), can be made on the form attached to the policy,
Staff at LHIB appreciate your consideration of these reminders and wish you all the best for the festive season, and a prosperous New Year.
