QantasLink and Skytrans - New Colours, Same Connection

On 16 May 2025, QantasLink completed its final direct service to Lord Howe Island, marking the end of over 30 years of dedicated service to our community.

Since 1974, Qantas has provided a vital public transport link between Lord Howe Island and the mainland, playing a central role in ensuring the connectivity that island life depends on. The sight of the red tail in our skies has become part of the rhythm of life here, offering consistency, support, and connection to the wider world.

On behalf of the Lord Howe Island community, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Qantas for their enduring partnership and contribution to our island’s accessibility.

While QantasLink’s direct service has concluded, the connection lives on through a new codeshare partnership with Skytrans.

Skytrans is now operating the route, using the same aircraft—just with new colours—ensuring continued air access between Lord Howe Island and the mainland. We thank Qantas for its decades of service and look forward to working with Skytrans to maintain and strengthen this vital link.

QantasLink Community Meeting

Following on from last week’s community meeting with Skytrans, QantasLink representatives will be on island tomorrow, Tuesday 27 May, and Wednesday 28 May to meet with stakeholders and answer questions.

A community meeting with QantasLink representatives is scheduled for 10:00am on Wednesday 28 May at the Museum — all are welcome.
