Notice of coastal erosion – June 2025

Coastal erosion near Little Island gate

Recent severe weather and sea conditions have resulted in significant coastal erosion along sections of the lagoon foreshore, including Lagoon Beach, Cobby’s Corner, Lovers Bay, Johnsons Reef, Kings Beach, and the Little Island gate and track.

Due to safety concerns, the step-down access at Johnsons Reef has been removed. Additionally, a large section of the Little Island track, approximately 100 metres south of the gate, has collapsed. The area immediately adjacent to the Little Island gate has become unstable and should be avoided.

Pedestrian access to Little Island remains open. However, all residents and visitors are asked to observe signage and stay well clear of unstable edges, particularly near the collapsed section and gate.

LHIB is actively investigating long-term solutions to restore and maintain safe access to affected areas.

We appreciate your cooperation and encourage everyone to take care when visiting these areas.
