Householder - New capital plant and jetty works support essential Island services

The Lord Howe Island Board has recently received new equipment and completed vital jetty maintenance, both aimed at supporting safe, sustainable services for our community.

The new plant — a 20-tonne excavator, skid steer, and multi-wheel roller — arrived on the Polaris in late November, with unloading and checks completed the same day. This delivery was supported by the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water under early works funding for the Critical Infrastructure Project.

This machinery will be used to prepare the Waste Management Facility site for construction and will remain on Island to assist with land management and maintenance into the future. Older, unused equipment is also being removed as part of the barge’s return voyage.

Jetty repairs were completed in early October. The works included structural repairs to areas not visible during earlier inspections. There were no safety or environmental incidents during the project, and a standard 12-month post-completion period is now in place.

Planning is now underway for future works on the northern section of the jetty, subject to funding and scheduling.
