Grow local gardens, protect the Island
The Lord Howe Island Board has received funding to deliver a series of horticulture workshops for the community. Designed to complement the Island’s rich local knowledge and long-standing cultivation traditions, workshops will equip more residents with the tools to cultivate gardens that support the protection of our World Heritage environment. The first workshops will be offered in late October:
Fruit Tree Grafting – A demonstration-based workshop on grafting techniques and propagation of fruit trees. Grafting is an easy way to share fruit trees on Lord Howe Island while minimising the risk of introducing mainland pests and diseases into local gardens and the Island environment.
- Date: Tuesday, 28 October 2025
- Time: 3:30pm – 5:30pm
- Venue: Community Hall
- Cost: Free
Caring for Fruit Trees – Soil care, fertilisation, watering schedules, pest management and disease prevention, and more, suited to Lord Howe Island’s unique climate and soils. This session is ideal for anyone wanting to improve the productivity and resilience of their fruit trees while supporting the Island’s unique environment.
- Date: Thursday, 30 October 2025
- Time: 3:30pm – 5:30pm
- Venue: Community Hall
- Cost: Free
