Community spirit on display at LHI Open Day
LHI Open Day 2023 on Wednesday, 4 October, brought together new staff, visitors, and residents to learn about the role of the LHIB and Island’s various organisations.
From biosecurity dog demonstrations and waste displays to bake sales, we hope you took away valuable information and familiarised yourself with new faces.
The prize-winning and highly commended submissions from the Open Day 2023 Photography Competition were unveiled, with the full results now online. The judges were impressed by the talent shown across the entries, which showcased residents and visitors’ versatile connection to the Island.
Prize packs were kindly contributed by Lord Howe Island Brewery, Lord Howe Island Distilling Co, Lord Howe Island Brewing Co, Lord Howe Island Bowling Club, Love Lord Howe, Iyara Spa, Island Showcase, Benny’s Fish Truck, Spirulina Wanders, Coral Café, and Thornleigh Farm.
The banyan tree was reimagined in the kids colouring in competition, receiving many creative entries. The 3-6 year old category winner took away a $15 Thompsons Store voucher and Island Showcase kids book by Sarah Jordan. The 7+ year old age group winner also enjoyed a Thompsons Store voucher and Pandanus fish set by Daryl Shick from Island Showcase.
Two lucky recipients of the door prize were announced, with each entrant to O-Day receiving a free ticket to enter the draws throughout the day. We are grateful to Abemama and Driftwood Bar & Restaurant who generously donated vouchers to make this possible.
Through the support of attendees, $511 was raised by the Nippers’ BBQ lunch fundraiser and $154 went towards the LHI Central School through gold coin donations for the information bags, which sported a limited edition 70s LHI print.
