Clean up of Lagoon Foreshore

Over the next few months, the Lord Howe Island Board will be implementing actions to improve the visual appearance and useability of the foreshore area, in accordance with the LHI Lagoon Foreshore Management Plan.

The initial focus will be on the boat ramp area. Short-term storage at the boat ramp is available with CEO consent; as outlined in the Lagoon Foreshore Management Plan:

  • The storage of small private boats and/or trailers will not be permitted adjacent to the boat ramp area for any longer than 48 hours
  • The short-term storage of larger vessels for repairs is time-limited

The Board is currently seeking assistance from the Island community to remove their vessels or trailers from the boat ramp area that do not have approval to be there for longer than 48 hours.

Board staff will contact owners of vessels and trailers (where known) that are currently stored at the boat ramp area and request their removal. Any items whose owners cannot be identified will be tagged by Board staff. Please do not remove these tags. If you know the owner, you can assist by contacting them and letting them know that their property will need to be moved from the foreshore area to an alternate storage location.

Owners of vessels or trailers without authorisation to be stored at the boat ramp must be removed by 3 pm, Thursday, 15 February 2024.

After this time, any unauthorised items will be removed from the boat ramp area and relocated to a site at the Power House in accordance with the Public Spaces (Unattended Property) Act 2021. A recovery fee associated with the removal and storage of the item will be levied to the owners upon their collection ($175).

Items that have not been collected from the Power House by 3 pm, Friday, 15 March 2024 will be either decommissioned or sold.

A survey of unused vessels along the remaining foreshore area is scheduled to commence in April.

Should you require further information concerning these actions, please contact Cristina Venables, Team Leader World Heritage or Liam Murphy, Ranger at the LHIB Administration Office.
