Australia Day public holiday - Service impacts and events

Waste Management Facility, LHIB Administration Office and Liquor Store closed

This Australia Day, Friday, 26 January 2024, the WMF, LHIB Administration Office, and Liquor Store will be closed.

To minimise inconvenience to residents, the WMF will be open on Thursday, 25 January from 6:30am to 10:00am.
 

Community events

Flag Raising Ceremony
The Australian flag will be raised opposite the Community Hall in the town centre at 9.30am – 10:15am on Friday, 26 January. All are welcome to attend the ceremony, hosted by Clive Wilson. 

Should there be poor weather, the ceremony will take place in the Community Hall.

Citizenship Ceremony
LHIB is honoured to host a Citizenship Ceremony on Thursday, 25 January to welcome five new Australians. Congratulations and welcome in advance.

Sandcastle Competition
The annual LHI Sandcastle Competition will take place at Ned’s Beach on Friday, 26 January, hosted by Jill Hiscox. Registrations open at 1:00pm and the competition begins at 1:30pm. 

A range of incredible prizes are up for grabs across the eight competition categories.

You can also grab a sausage sizzle at the Fishing Club’s fundraiser from 12:30pm.
