Lord Howe Island Board is seeking a Senior Electrical Officer to maintain, operate, and regulate the Island's hybrid powerhouse plant and equipment in line with Lord Howe Island Board and government regulations. 

The role involves ensuring the efficient operation and regulatory compliance of the renewable energy generation systems, managing both high and low voltage distribution to provide a reliable electrical supply to customers.

About you

You will need to have experience in operating with significant autonomy to ensure a consistent and reliable electrical supply, including making decisions on daily issues such as plant repairs and routine upgrades to maintain power infrastructure. In addition, you should be able to make rapid decisions to address power supply disturbances, ensuring prompt restoration of power, especially to critical infrastructure such as the hospital and airport, to safeguard community well-being.

 

Essential requirements

  • Electrical Trades Certificate (Supervisors Certificate)
  • UEPOPS022 Coordinate and direct switching program
  • UEPOPS036 Develop HV switching programs
  • UEPOPS116 Operate local HV switchgear
  • UEPOPS124 Perform switching to a switching program
  • UETDRSB001 Perform substation switching operations to a given schedule
  • Class C Driver’s license

The position is located on Lord Howe Island. Assistance to staff who must relocate to the Island to take up an appointment is available in accordance with the Crown Employees (Lord Howe Island Board Salaries and Conditions 2009) Award, including staff accommodation.
