Applications open for Geographical Information System (GIS) Officer
The Lord Howe Island Board has an opportunity for a Geographical Information System (GIS) Officer to join our team on beautiful Lord Howe Island. In this role, you will use your spatial analysis skills to support world heritage outcomes and produce high-quality maps for internal and external stakeholders.
As the GIS Officer, you will work with multiple technologies and synthesise complex data from a range of sources to advise on environmental issues, support research, and deliver clear and accessible mapping products. You may also provide GIS training and technical support to users of LHIB spatial applications.

About you
You are a GIS subject matter expert who is passionate about the environment and keen to apply your expertise in a unique and remote location. You are confident working independently, as well as across teams, and you build strong networks with other agencies and stakeholders. You are resilient, adaptable and ready to embrace the challenge of living and working on Lord Howe Island, including its limited technology and services.
Essential requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in Science, Surveying or relevant Engineering fields and/or equivalent level of knowledge and experience.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and managing organisation-wide Geographic Information Systems.
- Skills in GIS analysis and data management to achieve project objectives.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with relevant computer and GIS systems (especially Fulcrum, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and ESRI Web Apps).
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the design and management of complex field apps, data collection workflows and user design experience for a range of audiences.
- Experience in the delivery of GIS training and/or provision of technical support to users.
- Holder of a current motor vehicle driver's licence.
