Applications open for Field Officer
The Lord Howe Island Board has an opportunity for a Field Officer to join our local Word Heritage team based on Lord Howe Island.
In this role, you will contribute to the management and protection of the Lord Howe Island Permanent Park Preserve and support essential services across the Island. You will assist with the construction, maintenance and improvement of park assets, walking tracks, public infrastructure and facilities.
The position involves pest, weed and threatened species management, including in remote and rugged locations. You’ll operate and maintain plant and equipment safely and may support compliance and incident response activities as needed.
This rewarding role supports the management and enhancement of the Island’s biodiversity and natural and cultural values, helping ensure that residents and visitors enjoy safe, high-quality facilities and experiences.

About you
You will bring a passion for the environment and your community, along with practical field experience in areas like infrastructure maintenance, bush regeneration or weed control. You’ll be confident using hand tools and equipment safely and able to work both independently and as part of a small team.
Your enthusiasm, adaptability and strong work ethic will enable you to thrive in a diverse and dynamic environment. Physically fit and motivated, you’ll enjoy the challenge of fieldwork in remote natural settings. You’ll also demonstrate reliability, a respectful attitude and a commitment to safety and continuous learning.
Essential requirements
- Current Australian drivers licence (minimum class C)
- Ability to obtain CHEMCERT certification
- Ability to obtain First Aid Certification
- Ability to obtain an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) – applicants for an ASIC undergo a Criminal Check, a Politically Motivated Violence Check and a Citizenship Status Check.
Please note: This is a very physically demanding role, requiring heavy muscular activity, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling loads, bending, climbing, and working in steep and difficult terrain and in variable weather conditions. Engagements may be subject to applicants undertaking a health assessment to confirm fitness to perform the duties of the role.
