Householder – Pontoon maintenance underway

The Lord Howe Island Board advises that the lagoon pontoon has been removed from the water for routine maintenance and associated mooring works.

The pontoon is expected to remain out of the lagoon until early September 2026, while maintenance and safety inspections are completed. It is not available for public use during this period.

The Board recognises that the pontoon is well used by residents and visitors, and appreciates the community’s patience.

Why the work is being carried out
The maintenance program services the pontoon and its mooring system so it remains safe and fit for public use. The work includes mooring inspections and maintenance, repairs, sanding, oiling, drying and relaunching. Specialist contractors carry out this work, and it depends on suitable weather and sea conditions.

Carrying out the work during the quieter winter period reduces the impact on users.

More information
The Board will let the community know if the expected completion date changes, and will confirm when the pontoon returns to service.
