Householder – Middle Beach works — surrounding walking tracks open and stair closure

Works are underway to repair the Middle Beach stairs. The walking tracks have now reopened. The staged stairs closures for the rest of winter still apply.

Walking tracks now open

The contractor has removed the overhead cable system that was being used to move materials, so the surrounding area is no longer an exclusion zone. The following areas are now open:

  • Clear Place
  • Middle Beach walking track
  • Valley of the Shadows

For the rest of winter: staged stairs closures

The following access arrangements apply:

  • South stairs closed: 15 June to 31 July
  • North stairs closed: 10 to 15 August

While the south stairs are closed, Middle Beach can be reached from the north stairs. The north stairs are accessible to most visitors, though the track has short steep sections and rough surfaces, so some bushwalking experience helps. Please note this access is tidal-dependent, so plan your visit around the tides. During the week the north stairs are also closed (10 to 15 August), Middle Beach will not be accessible from either entrance.
