The Lord Howe Island Board is naming its new marine vessel, and this is your final chance to have a say. Round 2 is open now.

The shortlist below was drawn from your Round 1 suggestions and endorsed by the Critical Infrastructure Program's Community Consultation Group. Choose your preferred name before a recommendation goes to the Board.

Why we are deciding the name now

Some of you have asked why we are naming the vessel while it is still being built. The reason is the builder's schedule. The name has to be welded into the vessel during steel cutting on 1 September, and the builder needs it about two weeks beforehand. That means the decision has to be made in early August, so we need to hear from you now.

You also get a say on colour. Round 1 narrowed the external colour to two options, Surfer Green and Moonstone. You can choose between them in the survey.

In the interest of an open process, every name suggested in Round 1 is listed below. Suggestions came from across the community, including students at Lord Howe Island Central School, whose ideas were a welcome part of the process. Not every name could go forward. The shortlist was reached on merit, judged against how well each name suits the vessel, radio communication and the Island.
