Householder – Have your say – name and colour of the new marine vessel
The Lord Howe Island Board is inviting community suggestions for the name and external colour of the new marine vessel being built, one of the projects under the Critical Infrastructure Program.
A number of example names are listed with explanations and are provided as a starting point. The Board is looking for the community's ideas. What should the new marine vessel be called? You will also be invited to select a preferred external paint colour from four options online visit New Marine Vessel - Paint Colour Options.
Round 1 is open until 4:30 pm on 28 May 2026.
How to participate
- Online: visit What should the new marine vessel be called? and complete the survey.
- In person: visit the Lord Howe Island Board office to receive assistance completing the survey. In-person assistance is available until 28 May 2026.
- A dedicated session will be held at Lord Howe Island Central School so students can take part in both the naming and colour selection.
What happens next
This is Round 1 of a two-stage process. Between rounds, the results will be presented to the Community Consultation Group for discussion. The most supported and suitable names from Round 1 will be carried forward to Round 2. A summary of all suggestions received will be published before Round 2 opens. The Board retains final decision-making authority on the vessel name and colour. Results will be published on the Lord Howe Island Board website.
