Householder – Growing local plants for local gardens

The Lord Howe Island Board has received funding to deliver a series of horticulture workshops for the community. Designed to complement the Island’s rich local knowledge and long-standing cultivation traditions, these workshops aim to equip residents with practical skills to cultivate gardens that support and protect our World Heritage environment.

The first workshop, focusing on fruit tree grafting, was held in late October.

We are now pleased to offer the second workshop in the series on native plant propagation, running across two sessions on 15 June and 17 June.

The LHIB is excited to announce that Jack Shick will host a hands-on session in his garden, sharing his experience from seed to tree and taking participants through the journey of establishing a Sallywood Swamp Forest.

We’re also delighted to welcome back Mark Dunphy, an expert in native plant propagation from Firewheel Rainforest Nursery on the North Coast. He will be sharing his knowledge on plant propagation and related topics.
