The importation of all plants and animals to Lord Howe Island requires prior approval from the Lord Howe Island Board in accordance with Clause 61 (Importation of seeds, plants and other things) and Clause 62 (Importation of animals) of the Lord Howe Regulation 2014. Clause 63 of the Lord Howe Regulation 2014 provides for the seizure of illegally imported seeds, plants or animals.
The approval process reviews the pest potential of plants and animals to ensure any imported species will not present a risk to the islands World Heritage values.
The Lord Howe Island Board have prepared several policies relevant to the importation of plants and animals. Persons wishing to import plants or animals are advised to review the relevant policy prior to submitting an application.
