Robert Pallin - Appointed Member

Appointment: 27 November 2012 to 26 November 2018

Representing the interests of conservation.

Section 4(3)(c) of the Lord Howe Island Act 1953 (the Act) provides that the Lord Howe Island Board include a person appointed to represent the interests of conservation. The Minister for the Environment is empowered under section 4(5) of the Act to appoint the conservation representative of the Board. Mr Robert Pallin has been appointed as the representative of conservation.

Robert is chairman of the Paddy Pallin group of companies.  He started with the company in 1960 while studying accountancy. 

Robert was a member of the Coal and Candle Bush Fire Brigade in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park for many years.

Robert was a councillor on Ku-ring-gai Municipal Council from 1991 to 1995 and during this time was an active member of the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Bush Fire Management Committee including acting as the chairman of the committee.

Robert is actively involved with the Nature Conservation Council of NSW (NCC) and was the Chair for five years.

He represents NCC on the Bush Fire Coordination Committee, the Environmental Trust and the Illawarra Bush Fire Management Committee, which he chaired for 3 years.

He was also a member of the Tourism Task Force set up by the NSW government to look into developing more nature based tourism in NSW.

Robert is a Director of a small scale ecotourism operation on the Illawarra escarpment.

He also is actively involved in the Jamberoo Mountain Land Care Group and has been visiting Lord Howe Island with the Friends of Lord Howe Island weeding trips since 2001.  He and his wife, Nancy, first visited Lord Howe by flying boat in 1974.
