Representing the interests of business and tourism.
Section 4(3)(b) of the Lord Howe Island Act 1953 (the Act) provides that the Lord Howe Island Board include a person appointed to represent the interests of business and tourism. The Minister for the Environment is empowered under section 4(5) of the Act to appoint the business and tourism representative of the Board. Mr David Kirk has been appointed as the representative of business and tourism.
David is the Co-founder and Managing Partner of information technology investment fund, Bailador Technology Investments (Bailador) and is Chairman of the ASX-listed company, Kathmandu.
Two of the leading investments in the Bailador fund are SiteMinder and Rezdy, companies which provide online services to the hotel and tours and activities sectors respectively.
David was the Chief Executive of Fairfax Media from 2005-2008 and has previously worked at McKinsey & Co and as Chief Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister of New Zealand.
He is a Rhodes Scholar with degrees in Medicine from Otago University and Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University.
David enjoyed a highly successful rugby career for the All Blacks from 1983-1987 and captained them to victory in the 1987 Rugby World Cup.
He was awarded an MBE in 1987 and lives in Sydney.
