Visit by the Minister for the Environment, The Hon Mark Speakman MP - August 2016

The visit to the Island by the Minister for the Environment, the Hon Mark Speakman MP is taking place from 6th to 8th August 2016. There will be an opportunity for members of the Lord Howe Island community to meet the Minister over morning tea at the Community Hall on Sunday 7th August 2016 at 10.30am.

Helicopter Returns to Clean Up Weeds July - August 2016

North Coast Local Land Services has funded a second round of surveillance and spot spraying of weeds on cliff lines using the helicopter lance spray apparatus. Program updates are soon to be provided.

The Hon Mark Speakman MP will be visiting Lord Howe Island this weekend. There is a Community Open House meeting scheduled for 2.30pm on Sunday 5 June 2016 at the Community Hall.

Invitation to Comment on the Rodent Eradication Project

The Board has now submitted a Referral to the Australian Government Minister for the Environment under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) for the proposed Lord Howe Island Rodent Eradication Project.

Waste Management Facility - Winter Operating Hours

From the Week Beginning 16th May 2016 the Waste Management Facility will be open on the following days:

  • Monday 7am - 10am
  • Wednesday 7am - 10am
  • Saturday 7am - 10am

Builders waste, green waste, scrap metal, re-use shed material will be accepted on open days between 7am & 3pm.

The Renewable Energy future for Lord Howe Island is one step closer. Development consent for the solar panels, battery and control system aspects of the project was provided by the Board in December 2015, and work has commenced on the environmental assessment for the wind turbines.

Free Removal of Hard Waste for the Island Community

As published in the April 2016 Community Information Bulletin, the Lord Howe Island Board is offering Island residents and businesses the one-off opportunity to remove hard waste from their leases during the coming months. The cleanup will benefit the community, residents and the environment.
