The proposal is to rezone the Lord Howe Island Board Palm Nursery site from Zone 5 Special Uses to Zone 2 Settlement. The Board Palm Nursery site is on Part Portion 30 and 279 off Middle Beach Road, Lord Howe Island.
Rezoning the land to Zone 2 Settlement will enable the site to be used for private purposes.
Over the last few weeks, Board staff have been monitoring areas that were treated between October 2012 and May 2013. Results are showing success throughout most of the treated areas, allowing native ant species and other invertebrates to bounce back.
Up to 362 hectares have been searched and controlled of target weeds. This is a great result as we are on line to hit our goal of 440 hectares by June 30 this year.
"Regional air routes provide a crucial link for communities to access vital services and amenities in Sydney, as well as connecting families that live far distances from each other," the spokesperson said.
Toys are currently being collected by the Lord Howe Island Playgroup Association to be stored at the Anglican Church Hall for community use. A simple loan system is being coordinated and parents, grandparents, visitors and of course the kids are encouraged to take full advantage of the service.
The program, being run by Sharon Chapman with the support of the NSW TAFE Outreach program provides participants with new computing skills such as emailing and web browsing.
