COVID-19 Update on Board Services 31 March 2020


A number of changes are required at the waste management facility due to the Coronavirus COVID-19 public health measures.

If you are in quarantine following return from the mainland, please ensure that waste such as tissues and used face masks are placed in their own bag for delivery to the WMF.

If delivering general household waste on behalf of a quarantined community member please inform WMF staff immediately so that precautions can be taken.

The new Public Health Order measures require workplaces to implement social distancing.  The WMF will be operating a queue system to minimise public interactions.  Please stay in your vehicle and wait for instructions from WMF staff.  They will aim to keep things moving as quickly as possible but there may be a short wait – your patience is appreciated.

The revolve shed will remain open. Entry is limited to two people at a time.


From 6 April 2020 the WMF will be open for general household waste processing:

WEDNESDAY :           6:30 am – 10:00 am

SATURDAY:              6:30 am – 10:00 am

The WMF will remain open to receive other bulk waste such as vegetation and builders waste 6 days a week from Monday to Saturday 10:00 am – 3.00pm.

The Lord Howe Island Board will be carrying out quarterly electricity meter reading, commencing in the next few days. 

The COVID-19 coronavirus situation means that extra care around hygiene and social distancing is required in workplaces and in the community.

The Board staff member will take the following precautions while reading meters:

  • Avoiding contact with other people.
  • Not entering homes or business premises.
  • Using hand sanitiser when moving between properties.
  • Exercising particular care to avoid contact with community members who are in 14 day quarantine following return from the mainland.

The Lord Howe Island Board office and depot in Bowker Avenue will be closed for general face to face enquiries, effective from Wednesday 1st April until further notice.

The Board is still fully operational, but the closure will help us minimise interactions which could heighten the risk of Coronavirus COVID-19.  For all enquiries, please phone or email the Board in the first instance. If your enquiry cannot be resolved by phone or email then we can discuss the next steps.

The liquor store remains open, offering window service and taking payments by card or cheque (no cash).


In line with recently released NSW regulations the following facilities have been closed to the public:

  • Playground
  • Gym Equipment
  • Public Hall
  • Camping grounds
