Qantas Announces end to Brisbane Service to Lord Howe Island

On 11 August 2020 the Lord Howe Island Board was notified that QANTAS was ceasing the direct service between Brisbane and Lord Howe Island.

“Qantas continues to review its network in light of the impact COVID-19 has had on travel demand right across the country with ongoing border restrictions for some routes.

Adjustments to the airline’s turboprop network in Queensland will see its Q200 aircraft, which service Lord Howe Island, solely operate out of Sydney. This means customers wishing to travel between Brisbane and Lord Howe Island when Queensland border restrictions ease will be able to do so by connecting on flights via Sydney.

Customers holding existing bookings for direct flights between Lord Howe Island and Brisbane will be contacted with a range of alternative options.”

This announcement does not impact on the Sydney – Lord Howe service.  The Board will continue to work with QANTAS and other stakeholders to promote and maintain passenger services to Lord Howe Island.
