The Lord Howe Island Board is the road authority for the construction, maintenance, repair and draining of all public roads throughout the island in accordance with section 12(1)(a) of the Lord Howe Island Act 1953 and section 263 of the Roads Act 1993.
Under section 22 of the Roads Act 1993, notice is given that the Minister for the Environment will consider the widening of a road proposed by the Board.
The Board (acting on behalf of the Minister) will receive submissions regarding the proposal. All submissions received will be referred to the Minister’s delegate for a decision regarding the proposed road widening.
The road under consideration comprises a public road known as Smoking Tree Ridge Road, on Lord Howe Island shown in the attached plan prepared by Martin Pundyk on 13 September 2014. In March 2015, the Board approved a development application (DA2015-11) for a boundary adjustment of land on Lot 332 of DP 47549 for the purpose of widening of the public road Smoking Tree Ridge Road. The Board intends to acquire the land from the adjoining leaseholder and vest the land in the Crown to allow public access of Smoking Tree Ridge Road.
All interested persons are invited to make written submissions concerning the proposal to the Chief Executive Officer of the Lord Howe Island Board. The plan is available for inspection by members of the public at the Lord Howe Island Administration Office, Bowker Road, Lord Howe Island during normal business hours (8.30am – 4.30pm), within twenty-eight (28) days of the date of this advertisement.
Regarding the provisions of the Government Information (Public Access) Act, information contained in such submissions may, at the discretion of the Lord Howe Island Board, be referred to the person(s) who initiated the proposal for appropriate consideration.
