Anissa Levy - Appointed Member and Chairperson

Appointment: 15 July 2019 to 26 November 2021

Chairperson of the Lord Howe Island Board.

The Board is a NSW statutory body, constituted under the Lord Howe Island Act 1953 (the Act), charged with the responsibility of administering the affairs of Lord Howe Island (the Island).

Membership of the Board is governed by section four of the Act which provides that the Board is to consist of seven members, four of whom are to be Islanders elected by the residents of the Island and three of whom are appointed by the Minister and are not to be Islanders.

Section 2 (1) of Schedule 1A of the Act provides that the Minister may appoint one of the members of the Board to be the Chairperson of the Board.

The Board Chair appointment is to a senior NSW Government officer and Anissa is the Coordinator General Environment, Energy and Science.

Anissa is responsible for leading the NSW Department of Planning Industry and Environment’s, Environment, Energy and Science Group. She delivers on significant policies, initiatives and strategies on climate change, renewable energy and energy security, environmental sustainability, waste management, biodiversity and conservation. She also oversees the regulatory functions of the Environment Protection Authority and the NSW Resources Regulator.

A civil engineer by profession, Anissa has had over 30 years’ experience across strategic planning and the infrastructure planning and delivery sectors. Prior to joining the department, Anissa was the Deputy CEO and Head of Investor Assurance at Infrastructure NSW where she oversaw the development, implementation and operation of the Infrastructure Investor Assurance framework - a risk-based framework for the oversight of the government’s ambitious infrastructure program.

Anissa has had experience across the private, state government and local government sectors. Past positions held by Anissa include Acting Chair and CEO of the Environment Protection Authority and Deputy Director General, Planning and Programs at Transport for NSW.

Already, in her role as Coordinator General, Anissa has been extremely helpful in facilitating outcomes for Lord Howe Island.
