Under the current NSW Health Orders Lord Howe Island is part of the regional NSW sector which is open for visitors from other areas that are no longer under stay at home orders in NSW. Under the current Orders LHI can accept visitors from areas where stay at home orders are not in force, however, should the visitor be identified as a close or causal contact, or the area a visitor comes from go back into lockdown, NSW Health Orders may require the visitor to isolate on LHI/return to the mainland.

The NSW Government has foreshadowed a further revision and relaxation of restrictions when the state vaccination rate reaches approximately 70%. Revised restrictions may include the requirement to show proof of vaccination status.

The changes implemented by NSW Health may take time to adjust to. The Lord Howe Island Board wishes the island residents and tourists a smooth transition out of stay at home orders into the spring and summer seasons.

Householder - Amendment to WMF COVID affected operating hours - 26 August 2021

We apologise, the householder distributed on 11 August 2021 listed the WMF COVID-affected hours of operation incorrectly. The hours should read as follows:

MONDAY: CLOSED

TUESDAY:                    OPEN 6.30AM-3PM - BUILDERS, METAL, GREEN ETC WASTE ONLY

WEDNESDAY:             OPEN 6.30AM-10AM – REGULAR HOUSEHOLD/LODGE SERVICE

THURSDAY:                 OPEN 6.30AM-3PM - BUILDERS, METAL, GREEN ETC WASTE ONLY

Householder - Middle Beach Access Stairs Closure - 26 August 2021

The southern access stairs to Middle Beach will be closed for 3 days from Monday 30th August to Wednesday 1st September for maintenance repairs. Please do not try to access these stairs during this time.

Please also note that the lower section of the northern access stairs to Middle Beach remain closed due to wave erosion of the foundations. A geotechnical investigation is to be undertaken in this area to determine a long term solution to the erosion problem and to ensure the safety of people using the stairs.

Householder - New Landslip on Mt Lidgbird - 18 August 2021

The Board have been notified of a new landslip on the east side of Mount Lidgbird in the Middle Cave vicinity.  The slip has caused significant damage to vegetation down slope of the initial fall zone and is likely to remain unstable for some time. Landslips are a natural land forming process that can result in large scale disturbances that impact the visual amenity and modify mature vegetation. 

Householder - Revised Waste Management Facility Operating Hours Commencing Monday 16th August 2021

 

Commencing Monday 16 August 2021, the Waste Management Facility (WMF), will operate under revised hours.  This is due to the current down turn in visitor numbers effected by mainland lock down regions of NSW. Waste facility staff are using this low demand period to address crucial maintenance tasks.
